What are RGSS Scripts?

RGSS, short Ruby Game Scripting System, is a set of commands written in an interpreted language to automate certain application tasks or a type of computer code than can be directly executed by a program that understands the language in which the script is written. Scripts do not need to be compiled to be executed.

First and foremost RGSS is not a programming langauge. Many are confused on what RGSS actually is. RGSS is a library written in C that extends the programming langauge Ruby, and RGSS is an acronym for Ruby Game Scripting System. It is used within RMXP and provides Graphics, Audio, and Input functions for Ruby.

What Categories are the RGSS Scripts organised into?

We have 10 Categories that we organize RGSS scripts into. They are described in the table below.

Custom Menu Systems

This section is for all Custom Menu Systems. Weather they are fully custom Menu systems or Gameover/Title screens. All Alterations/Customization of the default Menu system goes here.

For Example, a fully customized menu system is the Chrono Trigger CMS by Raziel.

Custom Battle Systems

This section is for all Custom Battle Systems(CBS) and Battle System Add-ons.

A Custom Battle System is a Battle System that is different from the Default, such as Mr.Mo's ABS.

This is an example of an ABS(Action Battle System), which is a lot different from the Default RPG Maker XP Battle System.

Movement Systems

Movement Systems are those that alter or enhance the movement of the player.

An example of a custom movement system is the Cogwheels Pixel Movement Script. This system changes the movement system so the player moves in pixels rather than 32x32 squares.

Another example is the Caterpillar System by Trickster. This system alters the default opposed to changing the movement altogether.

Component Systems

These are full fledged custom component systems that plugin to RPG Maker. That means they have their own Scenes and Functions, usually separate from any of the default Scripts.

An example of a Custom Component System is SephirothSpawn's Materia System.
