RMXPU Community referendum

Please vote in the poll regarding which of the two chats is preffered:

Local Chat
http://www.rmxpunlim....net/other/chat
-local meaning it is hosted on RMXPU and messages are stored in the database
-slower, overuse causes the site to crash
-emoticons
-integration - admins/mods/users, forum usernames

Local Chat
http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/chat
-hosted on another website
-extremely quick as it uses new javascript technology that I haven;t figured out how to get working locally (yet :P )
-no emoticons
-no integration (but still possible to show who's online in the board index as is currently shown) but you can chose your name in chat

To sum it up, it really is speed vs features. Ideally I want to merge both of these - super quick chat with all the bbcode, emoticons and integration etc.

The winner of the 'referendum' will basically have its link in the menu.

This is a very tough choice. I love all the features of the current one and find it nice when giving help/showing off. Havent really found a reason to kick anyone or use any mod things in it.

I do love the other one. Its super fast and i dont get disconected/lag like i the current one.

Very very tough choice. I would have to go with the other one. Hopefully it gets used more. Speed is a very nice thing to have when chatting. I dont like my messages coming 5-10 sec after i send them.

I don't like the new at all. It looks ugly and lacks features. It would discourage me from using chat.

The current chat works just fine. It looks better and it has features.

I dunno, i think the current chat is broken :(

i personally don't need features, but i dunno that's just me. I don't like going into chat and getting booted out by the system for being idle (because I was off reading something, or working on something) and I get a lot of delay sometimes.

The Live Chat doesn't even load for me... : /

Though I vote for a third option. Get an IRC channel and post a link to a java app for webbrowswer connection.

That is the best option. Crazy fast. Emoticons. Super mod control. All dem' apples.

EDIT: I took the liberty of adding an option to the poll.

If you're going to do that then you ought to edit my post and add the a link followed by the features.

Wait.. this isn't a bad idea coz I can setup an iframe for it and therefore setup a session system showing users online. But still, add a link. We used to have a mibbit thing that was wildly unpopular :P

@isaac: what do you think the best IRC client is (free anyways)? I am having difficulty finding good comparisons/reviews. I will keep looking though

EDIT: if it makes a diff i am using win7 64-bit :P

it's a tie at the moment :o but I have to go with Local and not Node as I like the many features and it's overall appearance. Node is faster but I have never had Local ever chat lag with me, maybe by 1 second when we had roughly 4-8 people on *which was along time ago)

Edit: currently 7 people in chat, I have no lag it seems

i was the one that made it a 3 way tie :P only made it that way because I truly prefer IRC to anything else.

I don't java irc is the same thing. Isn't he talking bout a web based irc?

Isaacsol you post that everywhere :P my vote would be to not use it (under current conditions) because the harder it is to access then the less people we will get in there. My vote will go to whichever brings in the highest numbers.

I only keep it running as a backup anyway, and for IRC I use X-Chat, though I think the free version (which is just as good really) is called Y-Chat.

Looks like a 3-way tie. In that case, I think we'll stick with the chat we have now. But I am still keen on the idea of finding a better chat system down the track.
