Topic Prefixes

Yesterday I stumbled upon a very useful modification called topic prefixing.

This mod allows members to select a prefix when creating a topic (the following shows the engine prefixes shown in all the Game Development forums except the RMXP/RMVX forums):

This comes out in the topic listings (and also when viewing the actual topic):

Even cooler, you can sort the topics by the prefix by clicking on them. For example, the following link shows all of our RPG Maker VX user submitted scripts: http://www.rmxpunlim...filterprefix__2

There will be forums that require a prefix, such as Projects & Teams, Resource Requests, RGSS Scripts, etc. I have not yet got the requirement to work, but all members should know when a prefix is appropriate.

I will also be adding tutorial based prefixes since our XP and VX tutorials in separate forums. For example there will be prefixes for Eventing tutorials, mapping, scripting etc. Over the next for days (or weeks) I will try to prefix all of the topics where appropriate.

& Updates
And click on the battlers category (it's the 3rd one).

To the member who points out what I've done, you can have 5 points :)

And secondly, the RGSS Scripts forum has been hidden since the last forum restructure. Only admins could see it. A little surprised no one had noticed, but it's back now :)

:) Glad you like. Oh by the way, the prefixes in the titles (for example, the [XP/VX] in [XP/VX] DQ Church System) is not part of this. Those are there from our old rules. I'll remove them... when I'm bored :) Actually I'll prob do it each morning when I arrive at uni, before sunrise for goodness sake :P

It's faster to write down the topic ID's and then do a query in the database. Besides, the edit doesn't seem to work with prefixes. You could give me the topic ID's which is effectively doing the job, but since it is a rather large task, I feel obliged to not accept you offer.

To see what I mean, you could trying doing the 2nd page of the Projects forum, just recording the topic ID's and then giving them to me. Only if you're really that bored... After doing 1 page, I think you will see just how much time it takes. There's 10 pages altogether in the projects forum. I just finished the resource forum and that took me nearly 2 hours.

DAMN IT! All that topic prefix adding for nothing... Nice find Marked.

EDIT: I tried changing some prefixes in the Resource request forum, but they don't show. : /

Yeah, sadly editing topics does not work. I'll try to fix it...

This feature is pretty cool. I hate having to read the prefixes, now that they're color coded, it'll be easier for me to know what the topic is about. One question though. Do the prefixes show up in the "Latest Posts" menu?

I'm reasonably confident I can do it. :) I'm not at home at the moment but I'll see if I can do this when I get home.

Ant, Milipede, slime, termite, aquatic battler. Do I get the points?
I have a feeling I'm wrong because it wouldn't be that easy...

Haha yeah completely wrong. It's not an image, its some type of improvement. Think of the similarities between RMXP and RMVX. And maybe pay attention to the breadcrumbs :)

The only odd thing I see is that clicking on the RMVX battlers gallery redirects to the RMXP battlers gallery.

I haven't been to the resources in a while so I don't know :pinch:

Exactly.... Am I the only one who thinks this makes sense? There's no difference between RMXP battlers and RMVX battlers. When I was away approximately a year ago one of the admins added an RMVX battlers category thinking I had left it out, but I actually did it on purpose.

The trick here is that I've made it look like the VX battlers category is full of images, but is just redirects to the XP category which is where all the battlers will be uploaded... In other words I made it really simple for VX users to find battlers. Because they wouldnt enter the XP category, and having a battlers category outside the engine categories would make it harder to find.

Makes sense right?

Ah! That does make sense.

Damn that was a tricky one... xD Never noticed that. Nice thinking Marky.

Well there is sort've. If you made a battle for xp and it was 320 in height pixels and tried to use it in VX, part of the image would be cutoff.

Since many members seem to not be prefixing their topics, I've added a little reminder in specific forums. Example: http://www.rmxpunlim...o=new_post&f=14
