RGSS Scripts Archives Update Marked Aug 13 2010, 10:54PM

In order to make way for new sections, the outdated RGSS Script Archives needed to be upgraded a little bit.

As a consequence the menus have been reshuffled and I took this opportunity to finally to use real friendly URLs on the website. The reason why I waited so long is that of course when change the URL of content it causes 404s. But I will be setting up redirects for every script archive item and every menu item, and that will keep me busy for a while...

Okay onto the archives. Here's what I mean by friendly URLs, look how simplified they are:
RMVX Archive: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/scripts/rmvx
RMXP Archive: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/scripts/rmxp

Whats New
-Screenshot on category/listing view as well as the introduction
-The scripts (where possible) are displayed on the page as well as a downloadable .txt file
-The on-page scripts have syntax highlighting nearly identical to that in the engines (Example)
-Downloads no longer use our downloads manager. The scripts in the downloads manager will redirect to the items
-Internal comments. This means the comments made are stored in our DB so everyone can make comments using their accounts
-Alpha Index now displays items instead of categories only

Even though there wasn't too much to do for the upgrade (apart from revising each item at least 3 times) it took me a while because it's nearing the half way point of the semester for me which means tests.. so I rushed through it a little bit. I haven't time to test every item thoroughly. So we can use this topic for bugs, suggestions, etc. I'll get to work on setting up all the redirects shortly...

Spam. Marked Aug 06 2010, 12:40PM

Hey everyone,

Today is a pretty disappointing day. This is the first time I am making an announcement for negative purposes.

For a while now I have noticed a huge amount of spam, sadly from active members. Topics are being completely ruined. Members posting random things, going off-topic completely in a new direction, and general short useless posts. It's really disappointing to see.

We're going to crack down on this and it is going to stop. I considered closing the forum, but I think it will not take too long until certain members get the picture. Either you stop, or you will not be able to post here.

As a reminder, here is how spamming is defined in the rules:
(5.0) SPAMMING

(5.1) WHAT IS SPAMMING
On RMXP Unlimited; there are 2 types of spam. The first one is when a member or a group of members creates a lot of new topics/replies with the sole purpose of disrupting the normal order of things.

The second type is when a member or a group of member post un-valuable and usually short or ridiculously long post in a topic, without helping the subject at all, with the purpose of disrupting the normal order of things, or to add to their post count.

When the majority of one’s posts are very short, un-valuable and un-necessary, that person is called a spammer.

SPAM is also seen as “Stupid, Pointless, and Annoying Message” – Which is a good description of what is spam. Be sure to read the “Special Circumstances” point for more information about Spam on RMXP Unlimited.

(5.2) CONSEQUENCES OF SPAMMING
Spamming with the purpose of adding to your post count will result in a level 2 infraction. Spamming again will increase your escalation level, but we will also reset your post count to zero, so spamming is useless to add to your post count.

Spamming with the purpose of disrupting the normal order of things, like posting too many new replies/topics one after the other, will result in an infraction level 3.

(5.3) SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES FOR SPAMMING
A certain degree of “Spam” is part of RMXP Unlimited’s culture; these degrees of spam are the small topic drift and funny comments posted mainly in the Pub area. Some area of the forum doesn’t tolerate this kind of “fun” and “accepted spam”; those sections are the somewhat serious sections, like the RMXP section (Scripts, Tutorials, Etc). When you get used to RMXP Unlimited, you will get used to making the difference between the two.
I am going to introduce new policy as of today. If a member spams, as defined above, you will receive a warning via the warning system. You will be notified of your warn and the post you're being warned for, and therefore you may appeal to me. If you are warned 3 times, your posting will be disabled. This shall only be done for posts after the post date of this topic.

If you're a spammer by nature, follow these guidelines:
-post more than one line unless unnecessary
-your post should always relate to the topic currently discussed
-use proper english (this is also a core rule)
-dont post pointless, unhelpful, negative posts
-dont flame - your opinion isnt above any other members

If you think the staff are breaking these rules, please do use the report button or PM me directly. You will find it bottom-left of each post. I urge everyone to use this if they see an infringement.

This is really disappointing, really gutted I had to make this topic :( . I honestly don't think anyone will reach 3 warnings and I'm sure everyone will get the message from this topic. If you're confused about any part of this topic or the new warning policy, feel free to post below.

Prefixing & Updates Marked Aug 01 2010, 10:53AM

Topic Prefixes

Yesterday I stumbled upon a very useful modification called topic prefixing.

This mod allows members to select a prefix when creating a topic (the following shows the engine prefixes shown in all the Game Development forums except the RMXP/RMVX forums):

This comes out in the topic listings (and also when viewing the actual topic):

Even cooler, you can sort the topics by the prefix by clicking on them. For example, the following link shows all of our RPG Maker VX user submitted scripts: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/forum/14-user-submitted-scripts/page__filterprefix__2

There will be forums that require a prefix, such as Projects & Teams, Resource Requests, RGSS Scripts, etc. I have not yet got the requirement to work, but all members should know when a prefix is appropriate.

I will also be adding tutorial based prefixes since our XP and VX tutorials in separate forums. For example there will be prefixes for Eventing tutorials, mapping, scripting etc. Over the next for days (or weeks) I will try to prefix all of the topics where appropriate.

& Updates
Click here: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/gallery/category/56-rpg-maker-vx-resources/
And click on the battlers category (it's the 3rd one).

To the member who points out what I've done, you can have 5 points :)

And secondly, the RGSS Scripts forum has been hidden since the last forum restructure. Only admins could see it. A little surprised no one had noticed, but it's back now :)

Upgrade Marked Jul 31 2010, 01:50PM

Hi all,

We have just done a little upgrade of the software.

There are some cool new features. Most notably is the status updates which are now logged and have comments, the search, and the notifications in the user navigation box. There are tons of other features around the place, check out your settings too.

Normally I wouldn't announce something like this and just do it. However the upgrade was pretty bumpy, I've spent quite a bit of time already trying to fix bugs. You probably can't notice but we're using a completely redone skin which I made today.

This topic is for bug reporting. Anything out of the usual you can report here so I can get on it to clean up the place and complete the upgrade.
